Hello, and welcome to my first Color Fusers Blog Hop! I was recently invited to join this amazing group of designers by Debbie Henderson. They get together on the first Monday of each month to create a variety of projects using a particular color combination. This month’s colors include Blueberry Bushel, Poppy Parade, Whisper White and Balmy Blue.
When I saw the beautiful blues in this color combination, I immediately thought of the ocean. So, I decided to design a card using the Sea of Textures stamp set. The blues and white create a tranquil scene, while the pop of red is perfect for the main focus.
To create my background, I used a smooching technique. I started by squeezing my stamp pad (for new pads, try doing this upside down) to pool ink in the lid, and then I used an Aqua Painter to dab some pools of watered down ink onto a Silicone Craft Sheet. Afterwards, I smooched a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock into the ink. This technique creates different results every time, and the watery effects look great with this stamp set.
I started by smooching Balmy Blue ink, let it dry, and then added Blueberry Bushel.
After my background dried, I stamped the seaweed and texture stamps with the same two blues.
For the octopus, I inked up the stamp with Poppy Parade ink, and then used a sponge dauber to add Blueberry Bushel ink directly onto the stamp to fade the color of the arms. After stamping on Shimmery White Cardstock, I used an Aqua Painter to add a little more Blueberry Bushel ink to the arms and a bit of water over the rest of the stamped image for some additional blending.
I cut my sand dollars out of Shimmery White Cardstock as well, and then used an Aqua Painter to add faint highlights of Balmy Blue ink. I like how that made them look like they were under the water.
For the background dies, I did a few different techniques. For the net, I crumpled it up so it would look worn, and then for the smaller piece of coral, I cut it out of Shimmery White and then watercolored it with Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel ink for a variegated look.
I love the little fish die that comes with the Under the Sea Framelits Dies. I’ve seen it used in various ways, such as creating a see through portion of the card or a shaker card. For my card, I decided to cut out all the little fish and simply adhere them to the card. They are super tiny, so I created a pool of Mult-Purpose Liquid Glue, and then used a Paper Piercer to pick up each one, dip it in the glue, and place it on my card.
The Sea of Textures stamp set has great sentiments, but I really needed to make this a birthday card, so I borrowed a sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I embossed it in white on Blueberry Bushel Cardstock, and then punched it out with a Classic Label Punch.
